Over the summer and into the start of the 2023-24 school year, Herkimer Central School District is focusing the Spotlight feature on Herkimer CSD administrators who either recently joined the district or moved to a new administrative role. Today, the Spotlight is on Maria Lindsay, who joins the school as the new middle school principal.
Spotlight on: Maria Lindsay
Middle School Principal
Q. What date did you start in the new role?
A. July 24, 2023
Q. What is your background experience that led to this position?
A. I have been an educator for 27 years. I was a classroom teacher, a reading coach/coordinator, an RtI coordinator, and also a middle school principal for the last six and a half years.
Q. What makes you excited about working in your new role at Herkimer CSD?
A. Meeting all the students, faculty/staff and families that make HCSD a great place to be! The kids are definitely the best part of my job!
Q. When did you know you wanted to work in the education field and what made you feel that way?
A. I knew in high school that I wanted to be a teacher, but my guidance counselor talked me out of it. I went to college to become a physical therapist, and I was miserable. I changed colleges and changed my major to education and never looked back!
Q. What do you think makes Herkimer CSD special?
A. I attended the National Night Out on Aug. 1, and it was clear to me what a special community we have here! The collaboration between the Herkimer PD and the PTA was amazing! For a first-time event, the turnout was extremely impressive! I can’t wait to be a part of more events like this at HCSD!
