College Now

What is College Now?

College Now is the concurrent enrollment program at Herkimer College. Concurrent enrollment programs are cooperative agreements between colleges and high schools that offer high school students the opportunity to take college classes in their high schools for college credit, at reduced rates of tuition.

For the 2021-2022 academic year College Now Tuition is charged at $72 per credit hour to New York State residents. This tuition charge is paid by the HCC Foundation. NYS students are required to submit a certificate of residence to avoid paying an additional charge.

Benefits to Students Include:

  • Save money by reducing future college costs
  • Prepare students to meet college expectations
  • Show college admissions officers they are serious students
  • Reduce students’ first or second semester course load in college
  • Give students the option to earn a double major, do a work internship, or study abroad
  • Allowing students to complete their college degree in less time

How Can Students Maximize this Benefit?

Things to Consider

It’s never too early to start exploring.

To facilitate career exploration, students are encouraged to use the FOCUS 2 CAREER platform. FOCUS 2 provides a variety of assessments, will generate a list of potential occupations based on assessments, and has comprehensive information on hundreds of occupations.

Visit the FOCUS 2 CAREER platform and use the access code: hccc225.

Visit the Herkimer College College Now Program Concurrent Enrollment page for more information.

This is the start of your college record.

This is not to be taken lightly! How you perform in College Now will follow you after high school. “F” grades or Ws” (withdrawals) will impact future financial aid eligibility, student standing, and possible acceptance into your dream college! Protect your academic record by only taking on what you can handle.

Quality over quantity.

Chances are not every College Now credit is going to count in your future program of study. Taking too many college credits might take away the opportunity to take open electives and explore potential majors/careers down the road. Be selective in your choices and whenever possible plan ahead! A great plan that will give you a really good start with minimal credit waste is to only take one of each Gen Ed category. Advisors are here to help you navigate this. Whether you are decided or undecided on future college plans, we can inform you of the courses that will be most beneficial for our future college goals.
