The Art Student of the Month for January is Isabella Gilmore! Bella is in the ninth grade and she was chosen as Student of the Month by Mrs. Zorn because of her desire to challenge herself creatively, as well as her diligence and determination in the classroom. Bella consistently uses her class time well, and over the past four months her art-making skills have improved tremendously. Below is an interview with Bella.
Q. How does it feel to be Art Student of the Month?
A. Really great! I love drawing and creating art. I work really hard on my projects and I am happy to share them with others.
Q. What are your favorite art-making materials to work with, or subjects you like to portray?
A. I really like using Twistables, which are like mechanical pencils but with crayons. I like drawing cartoons and fictional characters.
Q. Do you have any artworks that you are particularly proud of?
A. I really like my animal eye colored pencil project. I’m also proud of some of the characters that I have drawn. I am currently working on a comic book, too.
Q. Where do you find inspiration from when you are creating your own artwork?
A. I find inspiration from pretty much everything. Playing with my brother and reading can be great sources for ideas, too. Seeing things that other people worked on also inspires me to work harder on my own projects, as well.
Q. What are your plans after high school? Do you plan on continuing to create art in the future?
A. After high school, I would like to write books. I consider really good storytelling to be a form of art. I might continue to draw comics, which would also be a type of art.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers about the art-making process?
A. It’s really fun to do projects about things that you enjoy, but don’t be afraid to try new things, too!
