Herkimer High School’s Student Council, National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society are once again hard at work on their annual Holiday Project.
What started six years ago as a small way to bring some holiday cheer to our students has blossomed into a project that served about 180 students last year. Students are “nominated” by peers or staff to receive a wrapped package filled with fun and useful items.
“Community support is a big reason for our success,” National Honor Society adviser Caroline Lampert said. “Our club members and their families, staff and local businesses have been very generous in the past, and we’d love to have their support once more.”
The Holiday Project organizers are looking to collect cash donations, tissue paper to line boxes, snacks (multi-packs of chips, crackers, cookies, drinks), Capri Suns, Gatorade, hot cocoa packets, easy meals (macaroni and cheese, ramen), hygiene items (gender specific or gender neutral), fun items (playing cards, stress balls, candy) and winter accessories (gloves, hats, socks).
“Thank you in advance,” Lampert said. “We can’t do it without your help.”
If you have any questions, you can direct them to Lampert, Student Council advisers Laura Scalise and Brooke Jones or Junior Honor Society adviser Susan Hayes-Manning.
