The Herkimer Central School District indoor track team had a standout season this school year – with six students setting school records, two students winning sectional championships and three students becoming national qualifiers.
“It was a good season,” Herkimer indoor track coach Jason Richard said. “It’s a good group of kids. They’re self-motivated and always striving for success – with a high level of fitness and a strong work ethic.”
Both boys and girls indoor track athletes set school records in a variety of events and then followed it up with success in major competitions. The following students set school records (listed with the event they set the record in and the records they set):
- Rylie Biamonte: high jump – 5 feet and 3 inches.
- McKenna Gargas: 55 meter high hurdles – 9.06 seconds.
- Aryania-Jo Miles: weight throw – 34 feet and 7.75 inches.
- Shane Maxon: high jump – 6 feet and 2 inches.
- Cam Voce: pole vault – 13 feet and 0 inches.
- Russell Stapf: weight throw – 46 feet and 0.5 inches.
Gargas also won the sectional championship in 55 meter high hurdles, and Maxon won the sectional championship in high jump. Gargas, Maxon and Biamonte additionally were national qualifiers in their competitions.
