Asbestos and Pesticide

Asbestos

In accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1987 (AHERA), a copy of the Herkimer High School building inspection report and management plan is available for review during business hours by appointment.

As required, periodic surveillances are conducted every six months. Currently, there are no projects scheduled that will disturb asbestos-containing building material. Contact the building principal in the respective building if you need to set up an appointment or if you have any questions.

Pesticide

New York State Education Law requires schools to provide written notification to all parents/guardians and staff members regarding the potential use of pesticides periodically throughout the school year.

The district uses current Integrated Pest Management practices to reduce the use of pesticides in our school buildings and on our grounds. It may be necessary, however, to use pesticides periodically during the year.

New York state law requires that schools maintain a list of staff and parents who wish to receive written notice 48 hours prior to a pesticide application at their school facility. If you wish to be included on this notification list, please contact the building principal in the respective building.
