Herkimer Central School District staff members have an easy way to recognize their co-workers for a job well done: a free coffee from Stewart’s Shops.
Herkimer Central School District staff members have been conducting a staff appreciation program called Coffee for a Colleague since the 2021-22 year to recognize staff for their hard work, dedication to their students, acts of kindness or any other reason they come up with.
The program is made possible through a Stewart’s Shops grant program. Teachers and staff peer-nominate their colleagues, and those selected receive a certificate of appreciation and a coupon for a free Stewart’s coffee.
Herkimer Middle-High School social worker Jessica L. Alberts helped start the program in the 2021-22 school year, when Herkimer Central School District received 200 free-coffee coupons to give out. She applies for the grant each year and receives more coupons.
“It’s a way to give a little boost to staff morale and recognize how our staff members are always stepping up to the challenge,” Alberts said.
The program is open to staff at both the Middle-High School and Elementary School.
