May 3, 2023 minutes (Budget Hearing)

Place: Herkimer Middle-High School District Library Media Center

Members Present: Brian Crandall, Michele Gilbert, Joseph Lamanna, Robert Mihevc, and Scott Petucci

Members Absent: Diann Fischer and Aleksander Verenich

Others Present: Superintendent Kathleen Carney, Chad Hess, Ryan Orilio, Susan Steele, Zach Abbe, Cristi Paragi, Renee Vogt, and Mary Tomaso


The Annual Budget Hearing Board of Education Meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. at the Herkimer Middle-High School Library Media Center by President Crandall and the Pledge of Allegiance was said.

President Crandall welcomed everyone to this evening’s meeting. He informed the Board that Ms. Fischer and Mr. Verenich were out of town and unable to attend the meeting.

Approval of the Agenda:

Ms. Gilbert moved, and Mr. Lamanna seconded a motion to formally approve the consent agenda. All voted in favor; motion carried 5:0.

2023-2024 Budget Hearing Presentation:

President Crandall introduced Superintendent Carney to formally present and review the proposed 2023-24 Operations Budget.

Superintendent Carney thanked Mr. Mower and Mr. Hess for putting together a budget that she believes our voters will be pleased with. She reminded everyone that the vote will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 12:00 – 8:00 pm at the Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School Library Media Center and will consist of the operations budget vote, election of Board of Education members and the Frank J. Basloe library budget and election of their trustees.

Superintendent Carney and Mr. Hess provided information relating to the 2023-24 Operations Budget via a Keynote presentation.

A brief discussion followed.

Public Comment:

President Crandall explained that the Board of Education welcomes public comment and community input at meetings. However, we caution that we are not authorized to engage in conversations pertaining to individual students, faculty, staff or administrators. Topics of this nature may only be discussed during executive session and must be coordinated with the Superintendent of Schools prior to a BOE meeting.

The Board of Education heard no comments from the public.

Adjournment:

On a motion made by Ms. Gilbert and seconded by Mr. Petucci, the BOE adjourned the public meeting at 6:27 p.m. All voted in favor 5:0.
