The Special Board of Education Meeting was called to order at 5:37 p.m. at the Herkimer Middle-High School Library Media Center by President Crandall and the Pledge of Allegiance was said.
Business Workshop:
At this point, Superintendent Carney, Mr. Mower, and Mr. Hess were available to discuss and answer any questions the Board of Education members had regarding the 2023-2024 Operations Budget.
Some of the discussion points included High Impact Tutoring and the Governor’s Budget. It was explained that funds for tutoring will remain in our budget, and if the high impact tutoring is not approved, the funds would not be spent.
Some of the Board members had concerns regarding the sustainability of the budget. Mr. Hess explained that foundation aid will remain for future years and the district will be “held harmless” – which means that we should maintain the same level of foundation aid moving forward.
Mr. Mower explained the “other” expense line item in the budget was so the District would be prepared for unexpected things that may occur.
After a brief discussion, the Board of Education agreed to go out with a 0% tax levy.
Adjournment:
On a motion made by Ms. Gilbert and seconded by Mr. Lamanna, the BOE adjourned the public meeting at 6:45 p.m. All voted in favor 6:0.
