Artwork from 2 Herkimer students featured in statewide exhibit

Two Herkimer Central School District students have artwork featured in the New York State Art Teachers Association Legislative Exhibit.

Herkimer 11th grader Bella Maass has her art “Majestic Whale Shark in Blue Waters” in the show, and Herkimer eighth grader Nicholas Hutchins has his art “Wary Wolves Face” in the exhibit.

“This is a great opportunity for our students’ artwork to be highlighted on a statewide level,” said Heather McCutcheon, the students’ art teacher at Herkimer who also is a member of the NYSATA. “Anytime we can be part of something like this, it’s a beneficial experience for our students.”

The exhibit is available on the NYSATA website at www.nysata.org/legislative-exhibit, and the Herkimer artwork is on slides 68 and 69. For the first time since before 2020, there also will be an in-person exhibit from May 16-23 on the Terrace Level of the Legislative Office Building in Albany. There also will be a reception there in May.

Founded in 1990, the NYSATA Legislative Exhibit is the flagship event for Youth Art Month and NYSATA’s largest public display of student artwork in a government building. The exhibit is co-sponsored by New York State United Teachers. The exhibit showcases the artistic achievements of students in grades K-12 from across New York state.
