Herkimer Central School District is dedicated to preparing students to find success in the classroom and in their futures. Students at Herkimer have access to a variety of rigorous and exciting academic opportunities that combine core knowledge instruction – such as English language arts, math, science and social studies – with essential skills like critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration. A Herkimer education is one that ensures each child has access to programs that meet his or her specific needs and provides an opportunity to become an engaged and lifelong learner.
Our faculty and administration use key teaching and learning tools – like academic standards, quality assessments and professional development – to ensure that our students are learning to the best of their abilities.
Grade Promotion and Placement
Decisions about student promotion and placement are at the discretion of the superintendent. These decisions are guided by multiple measures, including student performance in written assessments, state-administered assessments, classroom achievement, social and emotional development, and teacher recommendations based on observations of student mastery and skill.
Promotion and placement decisions are not based solely on student performance on New York state assessments in grades 3-8 English language arts or mathematics.
